Ramadan started, and that means Marketing Departments all over the Arab world are getting ready for the busiest season of the year. Every year we witness a barrage of new advertisements and marketing techniques created specifically for the Ramadan season. It seems like it is a must for every brand to include the crescent moon, a lantern and a stylish Arabic calligraphy, lest they miss the mark on the Ramadan theme. Advertisers start focusing on the virtues associated with the holy month such as piety and Kindness and brands associate themselves with charity and generosity.
This Ramadan, we can expect to see record levels of Advertising budgets being spent and new themes to some of the marketing strategies in order to gain exposure from between the thousands of brands vying for attention. After all, a little bit of creativity in this season of monotonous advertising goes a long way. Overall, it is estimated that over $2.5 Billion will be spent on marketing this Ramadan, with some companies appending as much as 78% of their marketing budgets on this month alone.
While TV Ad-spots will probably still hold the highest market share of advertising budgets, I would not be surprised to see Social Media Advertising budgets Sky Rocket in Ramadan 2015. Perhaps even ranking second place in terms of market share. Marketers have been shifting larger and larger amounts of their budgets over to Social Media advertising and this season is when they can make the highest ROI for their brand. The question that remains to be seen is, which brands will come up with the most creative ways to differentiate their brands amongst the cluttered market this year? Did advertisers learn from previous years?
